The Licensing Executives Society Russia (LES Russia) successfully held a webinar entitled “Disputes in IP Licensing and Commercialisation.”
At the beginning of the webinar, Sergey A. Dorofeev, President of LES Russia and Partner at Gorodissky & Partners, congratulated Natalia N. Karpova on her milestone anniversary. Professor Karpova is one of the longest-standing members of LES Russia, played an important role in establishing the Society and currently serves as its Vice President, having previously held the position of President. She is a Doctor of Economics, Professor and Head of Department at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA).
The professional programme began with Natalia Karpova’s presentation entitled “The Current State and Development Trends of IP Licensing in Russia,” in which she discussed the latest trends in the commercialisation of intellectual property in the country.
Elena A. Morgunova, Ph.D. in Law, Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Department at Kutafin Moscow State Law University, then delivered a presentation entitled “Disputes Arising from Licence Agreements: Key Issues and Causes.” She discussed judicial approaches and case law relating to licensing disputes.
In their joint presentation, “Disputes Arising from Franchise Agreements,” Yuri Mikhaylichenko, Executive Director of the Russian Franchise Association (RFA), and Sergey Medvedev, Ph.D. in Law, LL.M., Partner at Gorodissky & Partners, examined how businesses resolve problems and conflicts in franchising and presented several landmark court cases in this area.
Evgeny Oreshin, Ph.D. in Law, Attorney and Partner in the Dispute Resolution Practice at Eversheds Sutherland, delivered a presentation entitled “Disputes Involving Modern Technologies.” He reviewed Russian and international experience and case law concerning the protection of rights in software, databases and other intellectual property assets on the internet.
The webinar concluded with a presentation by Anna Voitsekhovich, Ph.D. in Law, Patent Attorney and Director of the Legal Risk Management Department at MTS. In her presentation, “Judicial Approaches to the Compliance of Licence Agreements with Competition Law,” she discussed recent developments in the interaction between competition law and intellectual property and examined the approaches adopted by courts in this area.
The webinar attracted more than 70 attendees and received highly positive feedback from the audience.
