LESI Annual Worldwide Conference “Licensing in a Changing World”
On 15–18 June 2003, the Annual Worldwide Conference of the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI), “Licensing in a Changing World”, was held in Oslo, Norway.

On 15–18 June 2003, the Annual Worldwide Conference of the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI), “Licensing in a Changing World”, was held in Oslo, Norway.
The Conference was preceded by a meeting of International Delegates held on 13–15 June 2003. The Russian Licensing Society (LES Russia) was represented at the meeting of International Delegates by S.A. Dorofeev (Secretary of LES Russia and International Delegate), V.N. Medvedev (Vice President of LES Russia, acting under a power of attorney in place of International Delegate M.Yu. Silin), and N.N. Karpova (President of LES Russia, invited to meetings with Presidents of LESI national societies).
The following events were held as part of the meeting of International Delegates:
On 13 June, meetings of National and European Presidents of LESI societies were held. The following issues were discussed:
Compensation of expenses related to improving the LESI website.
Compensation of expenses related to maintaining the LESI website.
The Basic Licensing Course developed by the Licensing Executives Society USA/Canada (LES USA/Canada). Training was planned for delegates of LESI national societies to obtain instructor certificates authorising them to teach this course in their respective countries. Any national adaptation of the course requires permission from LES USA/Canada. The course was to be presented at the LESI Worldwide Conference in Paris in 2004.
Applications from the Licensing Societies of Croatia and India to join LESI as new National Licensing Societies.
On 14–15 June, the meeting of International Delegates was held.
The following issues were considered:
Introduction of new International Delegates from LESI National Societies.
Approval of materials relating to the LES USA/Canada Conference held in Chicago in 2002.
The purposes of such meetings for International Delegates.
Discussion of the agenda of the International Delegates meeting.
Report of the LESI Board of Directors.
Introduction of an additional, third, Vice President of LESI.
The possibility of corporate membership in LESI.
Admission of the Licensing Societies of Croatia and India to LESI as National Licensing Societies.
Renaming of the Ecuador/Colombia/Peru National Licensing Society as the Andean National Licensing Society, which, in addition to those countries, would now also include Bolivia and Venezuela.
Compensation of expenses related to improving the LESI website.
Compensation of expenses related to maintaining the LESI website.

The Patent and Technology Licensing Committee discussed:
Report on the first Round Table at the LES USA/Canada Conference 2002 in Chicago (“Know-How Licensing”).
Report on two Round Tables at the LESI Worldwide Conference 2003 in Oslo (“Patent Portfolio Management” and “Companies as Incubators”).
A decision was made to hold a Round Table at the LESI Worldwide Conference 2004 in Paris (“Application of Compulsory Licensing in Different Countries”).
A decision was made to prepare and distribute a questionnaire on compulsory licensing.
A decision was made to prepare and distribute a questionnaire on due diligence in the field of intellectual property.
Based on the survey results, a Round Table was to be held at the LESI Worldwide Conference 2005 in Munich.

Following the meeting of International Delegates, the Conference itself was held, bringing together around 540 participants from 51 countries. The Russian Licensing Society (LES Russia) was represented by nine participants: N.N. Karpova, V.N. Medvedev, S.A. Dorofeev, S.N. Makeeva, L.I. Yatrova, V.A. Klyukin, N.N. Moshinskaya, V.M. Stankovsky and V.M. Lyapunova.
The Conference included 6 plenary sessions and 4 parallel Round Table streams.
Presentations and papers from all plenary sessions and Round Tables were available on the Conference website: LESI Oslo 2003.
The Conference was highly successful.
