The webinar was organised by the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI), with the support of its national society, LES Russia, and the Technopol-Moscow Scientific and Technical Association.

Participants also learned why patent searches are important, what reverse engineering involves and which intellectual property rights can most effectively protect product designs and brand elements.

To consolidate the knowledge gained during the webinar, participants took part in an interactive intellectual property challenge. Using a product from a well-known brand as an example, they were asked to propose a portfolio of IP rights that its manufacturer could use to protect the product itself, its distinctive name, its packaging and opening mechanism, and its overall appearance.

Although the task proved challenging, the participants successfully completed it through a collaborative effort. The exercise demonstrated how knowledge of intellectual property can be applied to identify the IP rights embodied in everyday objects, particularly consumer products. It also highlighted how difficult this process can be without assistance from specialists such as patent attorneys and IP lawyers.

The webinar attracted approximately 40 participants from various regions of Russia, many of whom had taken part in national and international competitions for young inventors.
