On 31 May 2012, the International Seminar “Intellectual Property under the Customs Union and Russia’s Accession to the WTO” was held in Moscow in the conference hall of Gorodissky & Partners.
The following speakers took part in the seminar:
N.N. Karpova — Doctor of Economics, Professor, Vice President of LES Russia, Head of the Department of International Business at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, with a presentation entitled “Key WTO Agreements. Goals and Objectives of Russia’s Accession to the WTO and the Customs Union”;
A.V. Kuleshov — Deputy Head of the Non-Tariff Measures Division of the Department of Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, with a presentation entitled “Intellectual Property Issues in the Context of Russia’s Accession to the WTO”;
S.N. Shurygin — Head of the Intellectual Property Division of the Department for Trade Restrictions, Currency and Export Control of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, with a presentation entitled “Protection of Intellectual Property Rights by Customs Authorities under the New Conditions”;
B.M. Myrzagali — Chief Specialist of the Division for Control over Customs Activities and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights of the Department for Organisation of Customs Control of the Customs Control Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with a presentation entitled “Information on the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights by the Customs Authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan”;
Yu.A. Bolotov — Managing Partner, BMFGroup, Kazakhstan, with a presentation entitled “Protection of Intellectual Property in the Republic of Kazakhstan by Customs Authorities within the Customs Union”; and
D.D. Lando, PhD in Law, and V.V. Shipitsa, Legal Counsels at Lexpatent, with a presentation entitled “Protection of Exclusive Rights to Trademarks in the Republic of Belarus under the Customs Union”.
The presentations aroused great interest among the audience. At the conclusion of the seminar, an active discussion of the presentations took place, with a large number of questions, comments and additional contributions.
Following the seminar, it was decided to prepare an appeal on behalf of the Russian Licensing Society to the legislative bodies of the Customs Union member states.
